In order to make sound working add following repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/audio/openSUSE_10.3_Update/ and install alsa-driver-kmp package. You may need to adjust recording volume controls from command line using:

Quick Media buttons and remote control generate normal key events. The biggest problem si that brightness controll is not working - which is critical when nb running on batteries.

2) Laptop uses Atheros chipset. Install latest MadWiFi drivers from the MadWiFi repo and wireless works like a charm. Currently managing it via KNetworkManager.
3) HP QuickPlay keys sort of work out of the box. Volume controls PCM in KMix, but you want to change it to the Front. Install hotkeys and you'll be able to configure the rest of the QuickPlay keys to do whatever you want.

Need to use drivers from NVidia's website otherwise system to defaults to VESA driver. Once the driver is installed 3D is enabled, you can use an external monitor, and make other adjustments with NVidia's tool.

4) Touchpad works, but for some reason neither YAST nor KDE is able to disable it even when you tell them to (I hate touchpads). Fortunately I was able to tape some cardboard over it to effectively disable it. Of course, if you like touchpads, then there's no problem.
Important: If you're doing the 64-bit installtion you must add the boot option "noapic" or the video won't work (use F3 at the install prompt). 32-bit doesn't seem to need the extra boot option. Other than that, the install went perfectly.

If you want the wireless to work, I'd recommend the Linksys WPC55AG wireless card since that worked for me, but if want a different card, make sure that you check compatability before you buy one (http://linux-wless.passys.nl/ is a good site), particularly if you're running in 64-bit mode. You're pretty much going to want a card that works with the kernel since it's difficult to get 64-bit Windows drivers for ndiswrapper to use.

ATI Binary Driver (> 25.18) is required for OpenGL hardware acceleration, Suspend to Disk, DualHead or Xinerama. An annoying high-pitched noise produced by faulty electronics can be eliminated by adding "options processor max_cstate=2" to /etc/modprobe.conf (affects a whole series of intel chipsets with integrated bluetooth). Touchpad (including horizontal scrolling), Bluetooth and Wireless worked out of the box (maybe after Yast-Update). Installing 10.0 failed due to common ACPI problems (known and fixed in 10.1 AFAIK).

This laptop (as many other HP laptops in this page) suffers from "bad state" problem. Laptop goes into "bad state" whenever it is shutdown or rebooted from SUSE. Possible indicators of the problem are: CPU not reaching maximum frequency (speedstepping does not work), battery indicator is not updated when running under battery power, long delay (20s) when booting. This problem survives reboot. One workarround is to boot to Windows or to remove power and battery, and wait for up to 20 seconds. The solution is to use kernel from | here or latest online-update-kernel. see | bug-179702. This bug is fixed in the latest kernel, and might get into openSUSE 10.3. It is also important to use the latest BIOS version from HP. to get wlan, fglrx or any other kmp-drivers to work again after kernel-update, just get source-rpm of required kmp-package and rebuild rpm or reinstall driver (in case of fglrx).

Suspend to RAM works, but is not enabled by default. You should edit /etc/pm/config to force use of s2ram (change line S2RAM_OPTS="" to S2RAM_OPTS="-f"). On resume display backlight is off, but can be turned on using Fn+Brightness button. Ethernet works after resume, power management (fan) works as well. Wireless survives resume. Touchpad doesn't survive resume. Installing kernel 2.6.21 solves this. Broadcom wireless card works with bcm43xx driver and kernel 2.6.21. The Intel graphics card in the laptop works with 3D out of the box and plays nice with XGL and Beryl.

This laptop (as many other HP laptops in this page) suffers from "bad state" problem. Laptop goes into "bad state" whenever it is shutdown or rebooted from SUSE. Possible indicators of the problem are: CPU not reaching maximum frequency (speedstepping does not work), battery indicator is not updated when running under battery power, long delay (20s) when booting. This problem survives reboot. One workarround is to remove power and battery, and wait for up to 20 seconds. The solution is to use kernel from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/trenn/hp_fixes_final/ or to recompile kernel (configure psmouse as module, unload the driver before system shutdown or reboot). This bug is appearantly fixed in the latest kernel, and might get into openSUSE 10.3. It is also important to use the latest BIOS version from HP. 2) Installer could not save windows partition. Tried partition magic and it corrupted the disk. Probably not the installers problem. Needed to use BIOS to security option to wipe disk (only ran it to 20%) before it would stop giving error that rescue partition is missing.

Overall rather tricky. No problems with re-partitioning and dual-booting of Vista. The 32bit version boots out of the box. Sound also needs some fiddling (see link above) - and the headphone jacks are still not working, though the microphone is. Got the touchscreen working according to http://www.cnpbagwell.com/Tx1000/HomePage. Same for wireless. Shortcut keys came and went, but am too lazy to sort that. Though the uvcvideo driver for the webcam is installed out of the box, what was missing is v4l2 support, which can be obtained by downloading and installing pwlib-plugins-v4l2 from the "Build service". Remote control works, at least partially. Haven't tried the fingerprint reader, and light-scribe DVD.

For Computer to Computer connection must use ndiswrapper. WEP works.(Need to use NetworkManager-gnome) WPA is not tested.

2) Marvel Yukon Fast-Ethernet 88E8042. knetworkmanager had problems only with IPv6 activated, ifup works fine.
